We are incredibly fortunate to have the facilities available to us within the Sunflower Soccer Complex. Our 46-acre facility includes 11v11, 7v7, 9v9 and practice fields, as well as an office building, which includes bathrooms and a concession stand.
Thanks to a generous family, the Whitemans, who offered a great purchase price for the land on which our complex sits. This model is unprecedented for most American soccer leagues. For example, of the five youth leagues across Kansas City, the leagues rent space from other organizations, and those costs show up in player fees. We are proud to say that Sunflower Soccer club costs are able to stay lower because of this outstanding fact.
Our full-time, dedicated maintenance and office staff oversee this facility to ensure we have best-in-class fields on which to practice and play. We work hard to keep the grass green and the fields in top condition, and our Board of Trustees oversees how the facilities are used and maintained.
In 2020, we added a Championship Turf Field to our complex. We were fortunate to receive funding for the field from the City of Topeka. The funds came from the city’s Transient Guest Tax, charged to guests visiting hotels in the area, and designated to organizations that will help bring in additional tourism to the greater Topeka area. That means all of us—the City of Topeka, Sunflower Soccer Association, and Topeka’s economy—all benefited from this opportunity.
Your contributions will enable us to aid players who need help covering the costs of equipment or scholarships to play in our leagues. Thank you for supporting sports in Topeka!
